Aging isn't just about the skin

Even what we don't see ages!

The aging process happens because various alterations take place in the bones, muscles, tissues, and skin of the face, all working together.

These changes take place in different areas of the face at varying times, onset at different ages for each person, and differ based on ethnic backgrounds.1

SKIN

SKIN

As we age, skin loses elasticity and firmness, becoming more fragile.
This leads to the gradual appearance of facial wrinkles over time.2

ADIPOSE TISSUE

ADIPOSE TISSUE

With age, the volume and structure of adipose tissue change.
This causes hollow areas in the cheeks decreasing facial volume and/or tissue droop and fat bulges.3

MUSCLE

MUSCLE

Aging affects facial muscles, leading to visible signs due to repeated muscle contractions and changes in muscle tone.2

BONES

BONES

As time progresses, bones undergo reshaping and resorption, leading to changes in the positioning of the soft tissues above them.2

AGING CHARACTERISTICS

As time progresses, the face undergoes various changes, generally resulting in two predominant aging profiles depending on the aging process of the adipose tissue4:

AGING CHARACTERISTICS

AGING PROFILE 1

Key features include:

• Sunken appearance and hollows in the cheeks
• Adipose tissue depletion in the lateral cheeks.
• Zygomatic areas present good projection
• Visible underlying bone structure (especially cheekbones)

AGING CHARACTERISTICS

AGING PROFILE 2

Key features include:

• Predominance of tissue droop and fat bulges
• Overall thicker and denser skin
• Connective tissues lose their integrity
• Concentration of volume in the lower third of the face (jowling)
